3. FISHING CONDITIONS

a) Poppers worked very well. Also lots of silver pacu were found eating under the trees.

b) Total number of fish landed during the week: 671

c) Biggest fish landed in the week:

- Peacock Bass: 58cm

- Wolf Fish: 80cm

- Matrinxã: 50cm

- Pacu Borracha: 32cm

- Pacu Prata: 31cm

- Bicuda: 64cm

As it is early in the 2019 season, the river levels have been dropping fast each day. We have seen lots of matrinxã underneath trees, and they are taking flies as soon as they hit the water. (The more skilled you are as a caster, the more likely it is you will catch these spooky fish.) Peacock bass started getting aggressive during the middle of the week, and we caught some big fish. Lots of nice-sized bicuda were seen too. Fishing for pacu borracha on dry flies was slow due to the water conditions, and we could not spot many of them. The creeks were flooded, making it hard to catch wolf fish over any kind of structure. On the other hand, big wolf fish were spotted in the shallows, before and after some rapids. Be prepared — they are dying for poppers!
