THE ADVENTURE UNFOLDS
As we closed out the 2024 season at Kendjam, there was an undeniable sense of pride in the air. The week was not merely about fishing; it was about camaraderie, memories, and a kind of connection that only the wilderness of the Amazon can forge. Returning guests mingled with fresh faces, and despite the less-than-ideal water conditions, the energy was electric.
When guests choose to return, it speaks volumes. This week, Florian Kaiser made his long-awaited return—nearly a decade after his first visit back in our rugged, exploratory days of 2015. Back then, it was tents under the stars; this time, Florian and his wife Tatjana were welcomed into our now fully-fledged lodge. Seeing Kendjam through their eyes, a place transformed yet still wild at its core, was truly something special.
Joining us again were Randolph and William, who last fished these waters in 2022. This time, they brought along their best friends, Will and Oliver, to share in the magic they’d experienced two years ago. New friends, old friends—the riverside buzzed with shared stories, hearty laughter, and the occasional shout of triumph from the water.
And then, there were Chris and Kelley—newlyweds who chose Kendjam for their honeymoon. If ever there was a couple to embody the adventure-loving spirit, it was these two. Their enthusiasm radiated through every cast, making this final week one for the ages.
THE CATCHES
Conditions were far from perfect—water levels were punishingly low—but our guests, with their youthful energy and indomitable spirits, rose to the challenge. It’s moments like these that define a trip: not the easy fish, but the fight for each hard-earned catch.
The week saw 323 fish landed in total, with standout performances across the board:
- Wolf Fish: 80 cm
- Peacock Bass: 64 cm
- Matrinxã: 42 cm
- Bicuda: 85 cm
- Pacu Borracha: 46 cm
- Pacu Silver: 32 cm
But it wasn’t just about the numbers—it was about the thrill of the fight, the joy of perseverance. Chris, a master with a fly rod, took on the challenge of catching Matrinxã on dry flies, despite the tough conditions. His patience paid off, and the reward? A breathtakingly colored 64 cm Peacock Bass, a true trophy fish.
Will and Oliver, our younger adventurers, had their own share of excitement, especially when they wrangled some massive redtail catfish. Meanwhile, William found himself locked in an unforgettable battle with an 85 cm Bicuda—one for the storybooks.
CLOSING THE SEASON
As the sun set on our final week of the 2024 season, the jungle stood as a silent witness to moments that will live on in the hearts of all who were here. The bonds forged, the challenges faced, and the fish landed—this was a week where the spirit of adventure triumphed. And as the last lines were reeled in, one thing was clear: Kendjam will always call you back, no matter how far you wander.
